It is with deep humility, and a sense of academic responsibility that I extend a warm welcome to all visitors to the official website of Guru Nanak Dev University. Rooted in the universal philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and inspired by the ideals of inclusivity, service, and enlightenment, GNDU stands as a beacon of higher learning dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge, intellectual inquiry, ethical leadership, and social transformation. Over the decades, the University has evolved into a vibrant academic ecosystem that harmoniously integrates tradition with innovation, local relevance with global perspectives, and academic rigour with humanistic values. Our mission is not merely to impart education, but to nurture enlightened minds, compassionate hearts, and responsible global citizens capable of addressing the complex challenges of the contemporary world.
Guru Nanak Dev University has consistently upheld its founding vision of promoting quality education, research excellence, and meaningful service to society. For its outstanding academic and research contributions, the University has been rightfully conferred the prestigious status of “University with Potential for Excellence” by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and accredited with the highest “A++” grade (3.85 on a 4-point scale) by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). Further reaffirming its national standing, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, has recognized GNDU among the top ten “High Performing State Public Universities” across the country. These recognitions reflect the collective dedication of our faculty, researchers, students, and staff towards maintaining the highest standards of academic quality, institutional governance, and societal engagement.
In national and international rankings, GNDU continues to scale new heights, reinforcing its position among India’s leading universities and strengthening its global academic presence. In THE WEEK–HANSA Research Survey 2025, the University was ranked among the top 12 universities in India, significantly improving from its 15th position in 2024. It secured the 44th rank nationally and 2106th globally in the EduRank Survey 2025. In the India Today–MDRA Best University Rankings 2025, GNDU achieved the 12th position among top general government universities. Globally, the University features among the top 23% universities in the World Rankings for Best Value Universities for International Students 2024. In the QS World University Rankings, GNDU attained 329th rank in Asia (2026), 77th rank in Southern Asia (2026), and 451–475 rank globally in Agriculture and Forestry, reflecting its expanding academic footprint and research visibility. These accomplishments reaffirm our sustained commitment to excellence in teaching, research innovation, and global academic engagement.
GNDU has also carved a remarkable niche in sports, culture, and youth development, recognizing that holistic education extends beyond the classroom. The University has won the prestigious Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy a record 25 times, underscoring its unparalleled excellence in university sports. In recognition of its commitment to environmental sustainability, community engagement, and social responsibility, GNDU has been honored as “One District One Green Champion” by MGNCRE, Ministry of Education. The University was also adjudged the overall second runner-up at AIU’s 39th Inter-University North Zone Youth Festival (2025–26), reflecting its vibrant cultural ethos, creative expression, and inclusive campus spirit.
In alignment with emerging global trends and national priorities, GNDU has established pioneering academic and research initiatives aimed at preparing students for the future knowledge economy. The University has inaugurated the “Surjit Patar Centre for Ethical AI” to advance education and research in ethical artificial intelligence and launched a cutting-edge “5G Use Case Lab” for next-generation communication technologies. Further strengthening its community outreach, GNDU has also launched GNDU RAABTA 89.6 FM, a community radio station dedicated to education, awareness, social inclusion, and public discourse. These initiatives exemplify our commitment to integrating technology, ethics, and community engagement in meaningful ways.
Academically, GNDU is recognized as one of the leading institutions in North India across the domains of Arts, Humanities, Science, and Technology, offering a multidisciplinary and research-driven learning environment. Our faculty members have been awarded numerous high-value research projects by apex national agencies such as MHRD, DST, CSIR, and BARC, collectively amounting to several crores of rupees. Notably, the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has recently established a Nodal Calibration Centre on our campus, marking a significant milestone in advanced scientific collaboration. In the year 2025 alone, the University signed seven international Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with institutions in countries including Canada and Uzbekistan, along with three national and three private MoUs, fostering robust academic exchange, joint research, and faculty-student mobility. Reflecting its growing global appeal, 41 international students enrolled at GNDU for the academic session 2025–26 across diverse disciplines, enriching the multicultural academic environment of the campus.
Through a holistic educational framework that integrates academics, extracurricular activities, community engagement, innovation, and leadership development, GNDU nurtures individuals who are not only academically accomplished but also socially responsible, emotionally intelligent, and ethically grounded. To promote research excellence and encourage young scholars, the University has instituted a dedicated Research Fund, offering 100 fellowships of ₹8,000 per month to Ph.D. scholars. Additionally, in its steadfast commitment to inclusive education and social equity, GNDU provides 5% reservation in each category for students from border and rural areas, ensuring broader access to quality higher education for marginalized and underserved communities.
Responding proactively to evolving industry demands and national skill development goals, GNDU has introduced AI-based, job-oriented courses and advanced skill development programmes through its Department of Lifelong Learning. The Golden Jubilee Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (GJCEI), established under RUSA 2.0, serves as a vibrant incubator for innovation and entrepreneurship, currently supporting 14 startups. The University has showcased its sustainable technological solutions at MACHMA EXPO 2025, Chandigarh, and established a Food Processing Unit under RUSA 2.0. Furthermore, the Centre for Agriculture Research and Innovation (CARI) is spearheading pioneering research on high-value crops such as low-chill apples, bananas, saffron, and elite varieties of sweet potatoes enriched with beta-carotene and anthocyanin, contributing significantly to agricultural sustainability, rural development, and food security.
GNDU is distinguished by its state-of-the-art infrastructure, encompassing modern classrooms, advanced laboratories, world-class research facilities, comprehensive libraries, extensive sports complexes, and comfortable hostels. The University’s verdant, eco-friendly, and digitally enabled campus provides a stimulating environment that fosters intellectual curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and holistic personal development. With a forward-looking vision, GNDU has embraced digital transformation across administrative and academic processes. Its Credit-Based Evaluation System and dynamic Placement Cell ensure academic continuity and professional readiness, with over 80% of students securing placements in leading multinational companies, reflecting the University’s strong industry linkages and career-focused academic framework.
The University’s interdisciplinary academic framework, integrating science and literature, economics and environment, social sciences and linguistics, physiotherapy and psychology, has earned national recognition for fostering critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Many of our distinguished faculty members serve the Government of India in key advisory and leadership roles, reflecting GNDU’s academic credibility and societal impact. The University’s h-index has risen to 175 in 2026, a testament to its growing research influence, scholarly productivity, and international academic reputation.
